Impressive New Talent
Written by Jeff Krasky
Usually I use this area as a forum to vent about the things that bother me in the country music world. I've decided to take a break from that. There have been some new artists breaking onto the scene that have simply blown me away and I want to publicly thank them for their contributions to the country music world.
1. Carolyn Dawn Johnson: If you're reading this and haven't purchased a copy of Room With A View shame on you. Click here to buy a copy and have it delivered right to your door. It's been a long time since we've seen a singer/songwriter of this quality break onto the scene. She's been a huge success in her native Canada and with singles like “Georgia” and the absolutely stunning “Complicated” it's just a matter of time before CDJ is a household name and a country superstar. We need more artists like CDJ in country music.
2. Cyndi Thomson: My World is another one of the best albums I've heard in awhile. Her powerful vocals make songs like the hit “What I Really Meant To Say” impressive and addictive. She can rock it up well and when she slows it down her whisper like vocals will leave you in awe. She's another songwriter and a damn good one. You owe it to yourself to have a copy of this album as well. You can grab a copy here.
3. Jamie O'Neal: It still blows me away how much Jamie can sound like Faith Hill. Jamie has wrote some killer songs that are found on her debut album Shiver. She also picked some great songs by other writers to cover. Songs like “Frantic” are huge winners. This is great stuff. You can order a copy here.
There are also some other talents sitting in the wings who's debut albums aren't as impressive as the three I mentioned above but they're talented acts that are bound to be stars. Check out music from Trick Pony and Meredith Edwards to see what I mean.
With artists like these country music is in good hands. We've been through some rough spells and there has been a lot of crap released lately. It's nice to see things coming around and seeing singer/songwriters making a comeback.
It's great to be a country music fan when you've got incredible songs like “There Is No Arizona,” “Complicated,” and “What I Really Meant To Say” on the radio. Let's hope the upward trend continues. Sit back, throw these albums into your stereo and enjoy.
