Women Of Country 10.0

Written by Jeff Krasky

Welcome to the newest version of the Women Of Country web site. This is without a doubt the most complete reworking of these pages since I started the site over five years ago.

All of the HTML code has been rewritten from the ground up to be more efficient. We've also integrated some newer technologies and cut down on excessive amounts of graphics. What does this mean to you? You should experience a more consistent look that is also quite a bit faster loading. These are two goals we've long been striving for. We've also expanded our page views so that they display full screen for all monitor resolutions. To do this we have dropped support for 640x480 displays. Windows XP has dropped support for this resolution and people have nothing to lose by making their monitor resolution higher. It results in more fitting on a screen and a sharper image. The site will still display in 640x480 but we have not tested in this resolution and cannot guarantee the site will look as we intended.

We also have added support for the Opera web browser. The site has been tested in Opera 6.0, Internet Explorer 6.0, and Netscape 6.2. Older versions of Opera and Netscape might have some problems. The version 5 line of Internet Explorer browsers should display everything fine. The browser upgrades are provided free of charge from all companies so there is no reason to not be on the latest and greatest release.

We also took some time and reevaluated our content. The links section now links only to official artist web sites and to record label sites. This makes it easier for you to find accurate information right from the sources that can provide it. We still provide banner graphics to be used if you feel like linking to our web site and we hope you'll continue to support us with those links.

The top ten section of the web site no longer contains a fan voted chart. The popularity of this section has been on a steady decrease. It's gotten to the point where there are hardly enough votes to consider it accurate so there is no point in having it. There has also been a steady increase in interest regarding chart analysis. A special thank you to Dana (who is one of our readers) for allowing us to publish her chart analysis newsletters. You can find these detailed reports in the Charts section of the web site. There are weekly charts covering both the singles and albums charts. I hope you enjoy them.

The Java chat program that we offered in The Chat Place is also gone. The program was slow and difficult to use. Due to this fact the room was never used. Now we offer a chat room on an IRC network that you can access using popular IRC chat programs like mIRC (http://www.mirc.com). There will also be a weekly chat that you can take part in. Please check The Chat Place for more information on times and how to connect to our chat room using the client.

We have also added an interviews section that includes an archive of all interviews that we have done. We are planning to add more of these throughout the year as we interview your favorite stars. Be sure to check them out.

I hope you enjoy the new web look. I always welcome feedback on any changes we make. Feel free to drop us a line with any feedback you might have.
