Real Life with Rachel Proctor

Bored & Blogging 10/25/06

Rachel Proctor Photo 4When I sat down to write with Kenny Loggins a couple of months ago I was thinking, “I can't believe this is happening.” We wrote a cool song and went our separate ways. A couple weeks later, he called and said he was tracking the song for his new project and asked me if I wanted to sing the bgv's. Of course I said yes. Next thing I know I'm in the studio not only singing bgv's on the song but he's decided the song would make a cool duet... so now I'm singing a duet with Kenny Loggins... holy crap... It was so much fun. I think I hit the highest notes I've ever sung in my entire life. He's got an incredible range so when you sing above him you're in the stratosphere. Of course, I didn't want to say I couldn't hit the notes for fear someone else could... so I took a deep breath and sang... or screamed... or whatever you wanna call it... but I did it and it sounds cool. I'll keep you posted on when and where you can get a copy of it.

Now that my EPs are in my hand I've been a busy little bee packaging and shipping as I can. So if you ordered one it's probably on it's way.

The other night John and I decided to go eat at Stoney River which I have to say is excellent. We finished our dinner and as we were walking out we passed a table and I happened to notice it was Martina, so I stopped and said hello (after much prodding from John). I thanked her for recording “Everybody Does” and she was really nice and said the track sounds great. I don't know why but I still get nervous like a little girl to say hi to her. She's still my absolute favorite country singer. I guess after you idolize someone for so long you still keep them up on a pedestal even if you have had success with them... or maybe I'm just shy and wierd. Who knows???

Went to 12th and Porter Monday night to see Lauren Lucas (always great), Derek George (awesome), and Rob McNelley (my hero). That show was so good. If you want to hear some music that just randomly makes you scream and holler go see Rob. I searched through 6,000 friends today to move him to my top 12. Speaking of... don't you think there should be an easier way of doing that? I have to search page by page. It took hours. That's how much I like McNelley's stuff though, so it was worth it. Check it out.

As for my writing lately... man, I have been so uninspired. I can't think of anything I want to write about. I blame it on being happy. Yes, being happy is an awesome thing. I love my life. I have nothing to complain about. My husband is awesome. I'm getting cuts and my EP is selling great. I can't write under these conditions. I've never been a sunshine and flowers kinda writer, although I can do it if I'm tied to a chair and forced to. I wanna write songs that mean something, not just fluffy BS. The other problem is... John is my favorite person in the world to write with and he's on the road with Jake so much now we don't get to sit around the piano for days and come up with cool stuff. When he is home there's other cool stuff we like to do... Ok, that was probably uncalled for, but we are married. He's been teasing me with a couple of great music ideas for songs and then he's off to the bus again.

I guess inspiration comes and goes. Hopefully mine is heading home soon.

Before I go, check out the new show dates. I've got some cool stuff coming up. The show at The Rutledge with Emily West should be great. We're both coming at you with full band, so be ready. She's great.

Hope I haven't rambled too long...
