Real Life with Rachel Proctor

Welcome Letter to the Fans

Rachel Proctor

Hello everybody!

Long time no songs from me, huh?!?!

Well, when I decided to leave BNA Records it was a very tough decision for me. My whole life all I had ever wanted to do was sing and make records, but I was at a place where I wasn’t really sure if I wanted to do that anymore. My personal life was in shambles and I was not content with the process of making my debut album. I felt like we had some great moments with the project and some not so great moments. So after a lot of thought I decided to take a break from everything and focus on getting back on track. I had no record deal, no publishing deal, and no idea what I was going to do.

In the beginning, I spent a lot of time picking up the pieces. I bought a house and spent most of my days working on it and trying to make it feel like a home. All I wanted was some peace and quiet and to rest. I needed to rest.

Once the dust had begun to settle, and I was feeling healthier about my life and my decisions, I fell in love. I had known John Lancaster for a couple of years. He had been in my band and had also been a good friend to me through some very tough times. I knew instantly the first time we kissed that this was the only man in the world for me. John had always been my cheerleader, my biggest fan from the first time he played with me in Madison, Wisconsin.

From the beginning, John and I spent our nights sitting around the piano with a bottle of wine, writing songs. We were writing songs for the love of it and not any other reason. The lyrics were falling out of me so easily and they were all coming from a real place. They were coming from my heart. They were coming from me... the real me. I’d never enjoyed writing as much as I did in those moments. I felt free. I could say anything I wanted to because these songs were mine. My marriage has been the best thing to ever happen to my life and my music. I feel alive again.

I decided early this year that I was going to go into the studio with Derek George (my producer) and record five songs that I’d written with John, so that I could start shopping the project around Nashville to get a new record deal. But, as time went on and the project was finished I started having cold feet. I wasn’t sure that a new record deal was what I really wanted, unless it was on my terms. This project is so special to me that I didn’t want to compromise it in any way, so I put this independent EP (Only Lonely Girl) together for my fans that have been so loyal to me over the last two years. I did it for me and for my fans, and that feels good.

The EP consists of five songs that I co-wrote and one song written by rock artist Will Hoge. “Only Lonely Girl” is the title cut and probably my favorite song I’ve ever written. “Stronger Hearts” is a song written for my grandparents and “The Noise” was written for a friend of mine who lost her husband. “Cool Water” is a love song. I don’t write a lot of love songs which is probably weird since I’m so in love. Last, but not least, “Better Off Now” is kind of my theme song. It sums up how I feel about a lot of things in my past.

So, if you want to get to know me a little better, then you should buy a copy of this EP. It’s me... inside and out.

I hope that this letter has shed some light on what’s been going on with me lately. Look forward to seeing you guys out on the road somewhere.

All my love,
Rachel Proctor

Martina's Album Is Finally Out - 4/9/07

Well, the long awaited Martina McBride album “Wake Up Laughing” has made it's way from Target into the CD player of my car. I couldn't wait to listen to it... and yes, of course, I went to #9 first so I could hear “Everybody Does” again and again. I think she did an amazing job.

My favorite songs on the album are “If I Had You're Name” and “Cry, Cry” ...I guess I'm just more of a tempo girl but I also love “Trying to Find a Reason.”

There hasn't been any word yet on what the next single's going to be so everybody please send prayers up that “Everybody Does” will be on the radio this summer.
