Bekka & Billy - Bekka & Billy
Almos Sounds
Purchase The Album
Bekka Bramlett and Billy Burnette have joined forces to make up one of country's newest duos. The duo explosion that has taken place this year will definitely make things more interesting for the never challenged Brooks & Dunn. Will Bekka & Billy be the ones to take over the duo throne? Well, going by this release, I wouldn't count on it.
This album as all others has high points. The problem is there are more below par tracks then above. This is mainly caused by weak harmonies when Billy is in lead. Bekka has one of the most unique voices I have ever heard and to match that you have to find a singer that can sing the way Bekka can. Simply, I don't think there is one that can.
When Bekka is in lead or either artist sings separately, their talent really shines. There is just something that happens when Billy takes lead that makes Bekka's raw voice almost seem to be fighting for that lead. Not a good sign in a duo.
Not to get me wrong, there are some great songs on the album ("Better Days", "Patient Heart", and "Soul Searchin' come to mind) but they are to far apart. The other songs tend to come off as plain. This is one of those things that will get better with time.
I would look for Bekka & Billy to make a splash in the country duo scene, but I wouldn't expect it this year. Time will blend their amazing talents together and when that happens, we might see a new duo take Brooks & Dunn's fire away. Until then this album is probably one to pass up.

The album stands above the rest. This is a record that every country music fan needs to have in their collection. This album is better than the average release. A strong record with some flaws that keep it from reaching that 5 star level. This album is an average country release. Doesn't posses qualities that make it stand out among all the other albums out there. A weak record that lacks solid songs or good vocal performances. Sample before you buy. This record is a bargin-bin reject that just isn't worth the time or the money. Completely misses the mark. |
