Gretchen Peters - The Secret Of Life
Imprint Records
Purchase The Album
Gretchen Peters has proven herself to be one of the most talent female song writers of the 90's. Now she gets to show us her talent as a vocalist as well. The Secret Of Life contains 11 tracks all written by Gretchen. Her writing tells the truth about life in a more straight forward way than anything I have seen before. Peters tells it like it is.
One really nice feature about this album is it is multimedia enhanced. There are videos and other things that you can view when you put the disc in a computers CD-ROM drive. This is a great addition and will probably start showing up on many more albums over the next few years.
The music itself is powerful, Peter's lyrics are amazing. Taking a look at life from the view of being caught in a traffic jam in "Waiting For The Light To Turn Green" is just one of the many unique aspects of this album. On the other side of the coin this style can be a turn off. Songs like "Over Africa" were just a little too different for my tastes.
Gretchen's voice soaks up emotion and throws it right back out to you. This is evident in ballads like "On A Bus To St. Cloud" the only song on the album that has been recorded by an artist previously.
If you like powerful songs, and an almost Suzy Bogguss sounding voice then pick up a copy of Gretchen Peters "The Secret Of Life".

The album stands above the rest. This is a record that every country music fan needs to have in their collection. This album is better than the average release. A strong record with some flaws that keep it from reaching that 5 star level. This album is an average country release. Doesn't posses qualities that make it stand out among all the other albums out there. A weak record that lacks solid songs or good vocal performances. Sample before you buy. This record is a bargin-bin reject that just isn't worth the time or the money. Completely misses the mark. |
