Patricia Conroy may be a new name in the states but don't let that fool you. Conroy has been releasing country hits in Canada for years and is one of the most respected female acts from the region. In her first U.S. release Patricia establishes herself as a seasoned performer with solid material and a powerful voice that should launch her up the charts.

I was totally unaware of Patricia Conroy until I saw her video for "I Don't Wanna Be The One" on CMT. This is normally where everyone finds out about little known artists that are left behind by other forms of media. After hearing the song, I immediately contacted Intersound records. The song impressed me that much.

Unfortunately, the rest of the album doesn't live up to the quality of that single. There are definite high points on the disc like "Diamonds" and "Somebody's Leaving". On the other side of the coin you find "The Bridge", a beautiful ballad that has appeared on other albums (Kathy Mattea "Love Travels" comes to mind) but this version just lacks feeling. "Crazy Fool" is a whiny ballad that simply doesn't have much to offer.

Conroy has a very unique voice that can overwhelm you with emotion, or sound carefree and innocent. This addictive trait helps pull the album through the weaker songs. "You Can't Resist" hints at Patricia's talent and with better songs, she could easily make it to the top spot on the charts. If you want a sneak peek at another Canadian who is bound for U.S stardom; pick up a copy of Patricia Conroy "You Can't Resist".

The WOC Rating Scale

The album stands above the rest. This is a record that every country music fan needs to have in their collection.

This album is better than the average release. A strong record with some flaws that keep it from reaching that 5 star level.

This album is an average country release. Doesn't posses qualities that make it stand out among all the other albums out there.

A weak record that lacks solid songs or good vocal performances. Sample before you buy.

This record is a bargin-bin reject that just isn't worth the time or the money. Completely misses the mark.
