What a difference a year can make. It wasn't that long ago that Mila Mason broke onto radio with songs like "Dark Horse." Radio might have met her with half open arms, but fans took a liking to the blonde singers deep Tanya Tucker styled voice. Now she is back with her second album for Atlantic records titled The Strong One. This time around you'll find a better collection of songs, and a stronger vocal performance than the first time around.

The first single from the new album "Closer To Heaven," is finding itself enjoying success on the tough country radio market. The rest of the album contains songs of equal or better quality.

The first track is the catchy "This Heart." The song talks about a woman who won't sit around while a man walks all over her. A definite hit. "One Thing Lead To Another," puts an interesting twist on breaking up. A ballad with more emotion than anything Mila has previously recorded. Another highlight is the up-paced "Don't Maybe Me." It is a story we can all relate to. It begs to be listened to over and over. Wailing steel guitars and heartfelt vocals make "Let Me Cry," another solid ballad.

Mila Mason is on top of her game with The Strong One. There are very few albums that make you feel every note. This is one of them. When we look back on 1998, this album could be considered one of the very best.

The WOC Rating Scale

The album stands above the rest. This is a record that every country music fan needs to have in their collection.

This album is better than the average release. A strong record with some flaws that keep it from reaching that 5 star level.

This album is an average country release. Doesn't posses qualities that make it stand out among all the other albums out there.

A weak record that lacks solid songs or good vocal performances. Sample before you buy.

This record is a bargin-bin reject that just isn't worth the time or the money. Completely misses the mark.
