Terri Clark - How I Feel

Purchase The Album

In the twelve tracks of How I Feel we are presented with a different Terri Clark. Just a few years ago no one had any idea who Clark was. Her rocking country sound and unique image made her one of country's fastest rising stars. Now Terri decides to try something different. This album is a much deeper, mellow record than her previous efforts.

Terri Clark is known for writing most of her material. Not anymore. Clark penned five of the songs and left the rest to some of Nashville's top writers. The result is an album that is extremely two faced. One minute you are faced with the radio friendly sound of a top writer with songs like the current single "Now That I Found You." The next you are listening to the hard core style you only get from Terri's writing with songs like "You're Easy On The Eyes."

It's a good thing Terri has a sense for good material. Pulling out a song from labelmate Kim Richey with "I'm Alright." A tale of a woman who is beat down but not broken from a hard break up. "This Ole Heart," is a fun little number penned by David Lee and Tony Lane.

Terri nails the bluesy "Getting Even With The Blues," which you can find on the second track of her single. "Cure For The Common Heartache," is another solid dose of more traditional country music. The powerful "Till I Get There," is easily the albums best.

If Terri hadn't picked such solid material, this album could have been a disappointment. Terri doesn't sound as confident when stepping up to the mic with someone else's work. But her deep, versatile voice pulls it off. But pulling off saves doesn't happen to frequently. Terri would be best off staying with what she is comfortable recording, her own material. I still have to recommend this album, Terri's voice is one that has to be heard to be believed.

The WOC Rating Scale

The album stands above the rest. This is a record that every country music fan needs to have in their collection.

This album is better than the average release. A strong record with some flaws that keep it from reaching that 5 star level.

This album is an average country release. Doesn't posses qualities that make it stand out among all the other albums out there.

A weak record that lacks solid songs or good vocal performances. Sample before you buy.

This record is a bargin-bin reject that just isn't worth the time or the money. Completely misses the mark.
