Beth Singer - Live While I Can
EJS Records
Beth Singer is the newest teenage singer to appear on the country music scene. After listening to her sophomore effort Live While I Can I have determined that she just about everything right. All it's going to take is a bigger recording contract and access to some stronger songs and we could be calling Beth Singer one of the next big stars.
Beth Singer has a very distinct voice that people will most likely compare to Ronna Reeves. If you liked Ronna's voice odds are you'll instantly be addicted to Singer. But the similarity also means that Singer must deal with the fact that she can over sing songs just like Reeves. Thankfully, she doesn't do that here.
I have often found that albums by independent artists are plagued with weaker songwriting than the material found on albums by bigger artists. That remains true for some of this release but there are also some tracks that hint at how great Beth is going to be if she's given time to develop her talents fully.
"How Nice" is a clever tell-off song, telling a former love interest that she's just to nice to say the things she really wants to say. The albums title track is another one of the highlights found here. "Go If You're Goin'," and "I Will Get Over This" are also worth the price of admission.
The rest of the album isn't weak but it isn't particularly strong either. The songs tend to fall into the average level and as hard as Singer works with them, an outstanding voice can only do so much.
Give Beth Singer a chance to land with a bigger record label and some fuller production and there is no doubt she'll be a force to be reckoned with. Until then Live While You Can is still a fun look into one of country music's up-and-coming female vocalists.
Editors Note: This album is out of print and we are unaware of any way to purchase it. You might be able to find copies on auction web sites like Ebay.

The album stands above the rest. This is a record that every country music fan needs to have in their collection. This album is better than the average release. A strong record with some flaws that keep it from reaching that 5 star level. This album is an average country release. Doesn't posses qualities that make it stand out among all the other albums out there. A weak record that lacks solid songs or good vocal performances. Sample before you buy. This record is a bargin-bin reject that just isn't worth the time or the money. Completely misses the mark. |
