It's time to welcome another teenage vocalist to country music. Jessica Andrew's has burst onto the scene with her debut Dreamworks Records release Heart Shaped World. In the albums twelve tracks Jessica proves she is a serious contender to the best teenage artist throne, however it might take some effort to topple Lila McCann's awe inspiring voice.

One trend I have noticed among the teenage artists (mainly LeAnn Rimes) is that they love to remake songs. Jessica's album contains three remakes, but luckily they aren't as disastrous as they could have been (take for instance the incredible amount of LeAnn's music that are covers, does she know how to record anything new?). The only remake on Jessica's disc that is truly laughable is her attempt to improve on Reba's "I'll Take Your Heart." This was a light hearted, addictive number with sassy background vocals when Reba sang it. With Jessica's version, it's well, how can I put this...boring. Thankfully she nails Carlene Carter's "Unbreakable Heart," turning out a version just as stunning as the original. Jessica also tackles Melodie Crittenden's "I've Been Waiting For You," successfully.

The original material on this album is pretty solid. The albums opening track "James Dean In Tennessee," is one of the best songs to come out in quite awhile. "You Go First," is a flirtatious little tune about a first kiss. Andrews delivers a breathtaking ballad in "The Riverside," and then hits you with a dose of attitude in "Whatever."

Jessica Andrews is one of the most talented new artists to hit country music in a long time. It's going to be interesting to see what she turns out with her next release. Until then Heart Shaped World is a satisfying listen.

The WOC Rating Scale

The album stands above the rest. This is a record that every country music fan needs to have in their collection.

This album is better than the average release. A strong record with some flaws that keep it from reaching that 5 star level.

This album is an average country release. Doesn't posses qualities that make it stand out among all the other albums out there.

A weak record that lacks solid songs or good vocal performances. Sample before you buy.

This record is a bargin-bin reject that just isn't worth the time or the money. Completely misses the mark.
