Purchase The Album

Joy Lynn White is simply one of the most amazing female vocalists to ever grace country music. Like Kelly Willis, White has the ability to consistently release high quality material. All three of her albums have a place firmly established in my "best albums of the 90's" list. Sadly the commercial country music industry has continually screwed Joy Lynn White over and all of her albums ran out of print. That has changed with the value priced re-release of her debut album. If you missed this amazing collection of songs the first time around stop reading this review right now and buy a copy.

White's fierce vocal style shines on songs like "Cold Day In July". This song has been covered by both Suzy Bogguss and The Dixie Chicks. Both are exceptional remakes but nothing quite matches the emotion of Joy Lynn White's raw recording.

The singles "Little Tears" and "True Confessions" both should have been huge hits and were never given the chance. "It's Amazing" is a stunning torch ballad where Joy Lynn's voice shines over a single piano.

The only criticism that could be made for this release is that there is no new material found here. People who already own the original might not have enough of a motive to make a purchase (unless you want to keep your out of print, first run of the album in mint condition). But that small factor pales in comparison to the quality of the album.

Joy Lynn White will leave you stunned. Her records are the essence of country music. Her ballads leave you feeling her pain and her upbeat tunes remind you just how damn good country can be. If you somehow missed her the first time around make sure you pick up a copy of this album. Where most albums are put onto the shelf shortly after their release never to be played again, this album is timeless.

The WOC Rating Scale

The album stands above the rest. This is a record that every country music fan needs to have in their collection.

This album is better than the average release. A strong record with some flaws that keep it from reaching that 5 star level.

This album is an average country release. Doesn't posses qualities that make it stand out among all the other albums out there.

A weak record that lacks solid songs or good vocal performances. Sample before you buy.

This record is a bargin-bin reject that just isn't worth the time or the money. Completely misses the mark.
