Sherrie Austin has been one of the unfortunate artists caught in the crossfire of country radio cutting down on playing female artists. Her career got off to a promising start with some strong singles off her debut release Words. This was followed with another strong single "Never Been Kissed" from Love In The Real World. Then it all came crashing down. The rest of that release was never given a chance to be heard and Austin found herself without a record label. She took some time off to write songs and has now resurfaced with a new release on WE Records titled Followin' A Feelin'.
Sherrie has one of the most distinctive voices in the industry and also has quite a knack for writing catchy modern country tunes. The album opens with the catchy, spoken verse title track. It's the albums best choice for a hit single. The quirky "Somethin' Missin' In The Kissin'" is another winner. Sherrie also takes on the daunting task of covering Dolly Parton's smash hit "Jolene". You'd think this song had been covered so many times there is nothing new to give. Sherrie manages to do the song justice. Something many have failed at doing. The current single "In The Meantime" is another one of those songs you just can't get out of your head. Sherrie has a way with words and a sound like no other.
The biggest complaint here is the length of the album. You're only getting 10 tracks for your money. I'm really hoping that Nashville continues to ditch this concept and give people more music for their money. The other being that "Time, Love & Money" just isn't up to Sherrie's high standards.
Sherrie Austin is one of the more promising new talents to break on the scene in the late 90s. Followin' A Feelin' is a good starting point for getting her recording career back on track. The album is a worthwhile addition to the music collection of any country music fan.

The album stands above the rest. This is a record that every country music fan needs to have in their collection. This album is better than the average release. A strong record with some flaws that keep it from reaching that 5 star level. This album is an average country release. Doesn't posses qualities that make it stand out among all the other albums out there. A weak record that lacks solid songs or good vocal performances. Sample before you buy. This record is a bargin-bin reject that just isn't worth the time or the money. Completely misses the mark. |
