It took SHeDAISY a worrisome three years in-between the release of their debut album The Whole SHeBANG, which spawns hits like “Little Goodbyes”, and it’s full-fledged follow-up Knock On The Sky. In that time we saw an inventive holiday album and a strange remixed version of The Whole SHeBANG, which still managed to be entertaining. However, you couldn’t help but feel like SHeDAISY was delaying putting a full studio album together. The wait is over and Knock On The Sky can be found in record stores everywhere. The good news is that we didn’t need to worry, while it might not be as strong as their last record, SHeDAISY has delivered another enjoyable romp through modern country sounds.
The album wastes no time getting going launching into the current single “Mine All Mine” which is classic SHeDAISY. It’s well written and has the group’s rock solid harmony vocals all over it. The first single “Get Over Yourself” is a musical assault on a man who deserved to be put in his place and you almost feel sorry for the guy who inspired the song. “I’m Lit” and “Man Going Down” could both be singles and rival the quality of any material the group has released to date. The ballad “I Wish I Were The Rain” absolutely soars. “Repent” and “Turn Me On” are examples of those quirky songs that SHeDAISY handles so well.
Unfortunately, the rest of the album isn’t as strong and in the end brings Knock On The Sky down a notch from their previous record. “Rush” is a boring pop flavored love song that just doesn’t have what it takes to stand out. “The First To Let Go” suffers from similar problems. It just doesn’t keep the listener interested. The mid-paced and airy sounding “All Over You” also fails to get off the ground.
Knock On The Sky is a solid album from one of the more interesting groups in country music. SHeDAISY isn’t afraid to take chances and keep reinventing themselves. This record isn’t The Whole SHeBANG but it’s still better than most of the releases you’re going to hear this year. You’ll want to have this one in your collection.

The album stands above the rest. This is a record that every country music fan needs to have in their collection. This album is better than the average release. A strong record with some flaws that keep it from reaching that 5 star level. This album is an average country release. Doesn't posses qualities that make it stand out among all the other albums out there. A weak record that lacks solid songs or good vocal performances. Sample before you buy. This record is a bargin-bin reject that just isn't worth the time or the money. Completely misses the mark. |
