Danielle Peck’s music can be summed up simply as a cross between Toby Keith and Gretchen Wilson. If you’re a fan of the music put out by those two artists then odds are you will like the eleven tracks found on Danielle’s debut release for Big Machine Records.

Danielle is at her best when she’s singing attitude filled upbeat songs. With these types of tunes her gruff voice shines and she delivers them with some fire. The single “Findin’ A Good Man” is sure to be an anthem for women everywhere for years to come on radio. The sassy “Sucks To Be You” is one of the albums best tracks. The gritty “Honky Tonk Time” screams to be played in dive country bars everywhere where the whiskey and beer flow freely. “Isn’t That Everything” is also a good tune if a little bit more generic.

The problem with this album lies in the ballads. The single “I Don’t” stand strong on its own because when Danielle sings “You say that I should stay/That Jesus forgives you/You pray that I will but I won’t/The difference is Jesus loves you/I don’t” she sings with the same fiery attitude that this albums best upbeat tracks have. Unfortunately, most of the slow songs found here tend to be rather generic and forgettable. “Kiss You On The Mouth” and “Fallin’ Apart” are decent songs but they’re not songs you’re going to remember long after the album is finished. That’s the problem with the remainder of the record. Songs like “Thirsty Again” and “A Woman Does Too” are decent but not great.

Danielle Peck has a distinct, powerful voice and a raw style that is going to connect well with fans who are getting tired of cookie cutter sounds on the radio. Unfortunately, Danielle doesn’t deliver on that distinctiveness consistently and falls into generic too frequently for this album to get a higher recommendation. Buy this album for the party music and give Danielle another album or two to perfect her style and then we might really have something to talk about.

The album stands above the rest. This is a record that every country music fan needs to have in their collection.

This album is better than the average release. A strong record with some flaws that keep it from reaching that 5 star level.

This album is an average country release. Doesn't posses qualities that make it stand out among all the other albums out there.

A weak record that lacks solid songs or good vocal performances. Sample before you buy.

This record is a bargin-bin reject that just isn't worth the time or the money. Completely misses the mark.
